Human Design for Business: Why the Advice Was Never Written for You

There's a moment most service providers and healers go through at some point, sometimes early on, sometimes years in, where the advice just stops making sense.

You're doing the things. Showing up. Working on your offers. Maybe you've invested in courses, coaches, programmes. And something still doesn't quite fit. The model that worked brilliantly for the person who sold it to you feels like wearing the wrong size shoes: functional, technically, but uncomfortable in a way you can't fully put your finger on.

Here's the reframe I want to offer you: the problem is almost never you. It's that most business advice was built for a specific way of working, a specific type of energy, and if that's not yours, you're going to feel that friction constantly. No amount of strategy or pushing through will fix a model that was never designed for how you work.

Human Design is one of the most useful tools I've come across for understanding this. Not because it tells you who to be or gives you a rigid framework to follow but because it explains how you're actually wired, and what kind of business makes sense for someone wired that way.

Your energy type, your profile, how you make decisions, all of it shapes what offers you should be creating, how you should be selling, and what the day-to-day of your business actually needs to look like.

Buckle up, we're going in deep with this one!

First, if you don't know your chart, go get it now.

You need your birth date, your exact time of birth (this is important get it from your birth certificate if you can), and your birth location. Go to Jovian Archive or MyBodyGraph and generate your free chart. It takes two minutes.

You're looking for your Energy Type: it'll say Generator, Manifesting Generator, Projector, Manifestor, or Reflector. Find it, then come back.

Generators

If you're a Generator, you are literally built to work, and most of the business advice out there was written with you in mind.

You have consistent, sustainable energy. When you're doing work you love, it actually replenishes you. You light up, and clients can feel that. It's magnetic. The key for you is that your energy works like that only when you're genuinely responding to something that excites you. Your gut (your sacral centre) will always tell you whether something is a real yes or a no. When you ignore that and keep doing work that doesn't actually light you up, you burn out even with all that energy available. That's not a productivity problem. That's an alignment problem.

Your offers can handle volume. Multiple clients a week, group programmes, memberships, consistent content, these can work really well for you because the doing itself is energising when the work is right. If you're a yoga teacher seeing ten classes a week and genuinely loving it, that makes complete sense for your design.

How you sell: your energy does a lot of the work for you. When you're lit up, people want what you have. Show up, be visible, let people see what you're about, and respond to the enquiries that come in. You don't need to be chasing anyone.

Watch out for saying yes to everything because you have the energy for it. Your design is built to respond to a genuine gut yes, not to push through on willpower. If specific clients feel draining or the work feels hollow, that's important information.

Manifesting Generators

If you're a Manifesting Generator, you're fast, multi-passionate, and probably better at several things than most people are at one. You've likely been told to pick a lane. I'd take that advice with a very large pinch of salt.

You're built for variety and speed. You can carry multiple things at once without it feeling scattered, because for you, it genuinely isn't. You also skip steps that feel unnecessary to you. Where someone else would go methodically from A to B to C, you'll jump straight to C and it'll work. That's not carelessness. That's your design.

Your offers can absolutely be multiple. The naturopath who also runs workshops, has a digital product, and takes private clients isn't being scattered, she might be a Manifesting Generator doing exactly what she's built for. The single-offer model that feels too constricting might not be the right container for you.

How you sell: you can move fast and pivot without it being a crisis. Your content can reflect your range. People follow Manifesting Generators because they're interesting and unpredictable in the best way, show that.

Watch out for starting things and not finishing them. Your design skips steps but it doesn't mean nothing needs time. And launching something before it's ready because you moved so fast, give it just enough time to land.

Projectors

If you're a Projector (like me!), you are not built for consistent output. I want to say that clearly, because it's the thing that changes everything.

You don't have your own sustainable energy to draw from, you amplify and guide the energy of others. Which means you can work with real depth and clarity for a period, and then you genuinely need to rest. Not a half hour. Actual rest. That's not a character flaw or a productivity issue. That's your operating system doing exactly what it should.

Your gift is that you can see things other people can't: systems, patterns, what's actually happening underneath the surface. You're built to guide, not to do it all yourself. And your best opportunities come through being recognised and invited. When someone sees what you're about and specifically asks for your input or your work, that's when everything clicks into place. When you push and initiate constantly, it tends to meet more resistance than it should.

Your offers should be fewer and deeper. 1:1 mentorship, consulting, advisory work, anything where you're genuinely guiding rather than just doing. You're not built to see eight clients a day. You're built to go deep with a few. The premium, high-touch model suits Projectors well because it actually uses what you're good at.

How you sell: visibility over volume. Your job is to be so clearly yourself, in your content, your work, the way you show up, that the right people recognise you and reach out. You don't need to constantly sell. You need to be consistently visible and let people find you.

Watch out for taking on too much because you can manage it in short bursts. You'll feel it later. And initiating with people who haven't recognised or invited you yet, it usually doesn't land the way you want it to.

My own example: I'm a 5/1 Projector. For years I ran my branding business the way I thought a business was supposed to run, as many clients as I could take, always available, always pushing for the next project. It worked, technically. And it was exhausting in a way I couldn't fully explain until I understood my design.

The 5 in my profile means people tend to project onto me, they see me as having solutions before I've said much. The 1 means I need a solid foundation of knowledge before I feel confident enough to share. Together, they explain why deep research and careful preparation are non-negotiable for me, and why my content tends to position me as someone with answers even when I'm still figuring things out myself.

Once I understood all of it, I restructured everything. My mentorship is limited to five spots. My reports are written rather than live sessions because I give more through considered, written guidance than I do in a one-hour call where I'm performing being on. My marketing is built around content that lets people find me and decide to reach out, not me chasing leads. Every structural decision in my business reflects my design. Not because I had it all figured out from the beginning, because I eventually stopped fighting how I work and started building around it instead.

Manifestors

If you're a Manifestor, you are the only type that's actually built to initiate. You can make things happen from nothing, you don't need to wait for opportunities to come to you the way other types do.

What you do need to do is inform. When you let the people around you know what you're about to move on before you move, things go more smoothly. It reduces the resistance Manifestors often face when they just act without telling anyone. It can feel unnecessary but it's worth doing.

You also have impact energy, not sustainable energy. Bursts of powerful action, and then you genuinely need to rest before the next thing. Real rest. Not just a weekend.

Your offers work well as big launches, intensive projects, things you can initiate and then step back from. Retreats, intensives, products you create once and sell over time. You don't need to sustain high-volume ongoing client work the way Generators do, build in the rest phase and design around it.

How you sell: direct, bold communication about what you're doing and why. Manifestors can make announcements and have people follow, as long as people feel informed rather than surprised.

Watch out for running on empty and skipping the rest phase after an intense period. And assuming everyone moves at your pace, they don't, and meeting that with frustration usually makes things harder.

Reflectors

If you're a Reflector, you're rare (less than 1% of the population) and your design is genuinely unlike everyone else's.

You're deeply affected by your environment and the people in it. You absorb and reflect back the energy of wherever you are, which means the wrong environment can be genuinely depleting and the right one can feel extraordinary. Where you work, who you work with, and the community around you matters more for you than for any other type. This isn't sensitivity as a weakness: it's data.

You also need a full lunar cycle (around 28 days) to make major decisions with real clarity. Not because you're slow. Because that's genuinely how long it takes for you to know what's true for you. Making significant business decisions in a day or a week will almost always feel off in hindsight.

Your offers often work best in contexts where you can observe and reflect: group or community work where your role is to mirror back what you're seeing, longer-term relationships where you can genuinely know someone over time. Protect your environment fiercely, it's not a preference, it's a business decision.

Watch out for pressure to decide quickly. The lunar cycle is not optional for you, even when external urgency says otherwise.

Beyond your type: profile and authority

Your energy type is the starting point. But there's more.

Your profile (the two numbers on your chart, like 5/1 or 2/4) tells you how you're naturally meant to show up in the world and be seen. It affects how you build your reputation, whether you need a deep knowledge foundation before you feel ready, whether you're designed to experiment and learn through trial and error, whether you need close community or thrive working more independently.

These things directly shape how you market, what kind of content lands for you, and how people relate to you.

Your authority is the other major piece, it's your inner decision-making compass. How you actually know what's right for you, underneath all the thinking and second-guessing. Emotional authority means clarity comes after the emotional wave passes, not on the high, not on the low. Sacral authority is a gut yes or no in the body, right now. Splenic is a quiet, in-the-moment instinct that doesn't repeat itself. Each one is different, and each one has real implications for how you make business decisions, which clients you take, what you launch, what you walk away from.

When you're making decisions from the right authority, things tend to work out. When you're overriding it and deciding from your head, you often end up somewhere you didn't quite want to be.

Putting it together

All of this is in your chart. The type, the profile, the authority, the defined and undefined centres, the gates - all of it is a map of how you're actually wired. And when you start building your business from that map instead of someone else's, the difference is real.

Not because Human Design is magic. Because you stop spending energy fighting your own design and start working with it instead.

The Seeker Report is a personalised written Human Design report, created for you specifically. It covers your type, your strategy and authority, your profile, your key gates and channels, your environment, and what all of it means practically for how you work, make decisions, and build something that actually fits your life. It's 20 to 25 pages, written personally by me, and it's the thing I'd want in my hands before making any significant business decision.
